an investigation into the biophysical and philosophical mechanics of creativity and randomness by using living organisms as artistic material.
CHAPTER 1
50 flows
A 3-channel video projection
based on video recordings made at a microscopic level, showing the flow of cytoplasm within the slime mold species Physarum polycephalum. The so-called cytoplasmic streaming controls the growth and movement of the "many-headed" protozoa. The resulting network structures are the raw material for an imaginative journey that focuses on the creative potential of simple organisms.
With quotes by Gilles Deleuze & Félix Guattari, Rebecca Horn, Daniel Kehlmann and Michel Serres:
The microscopic videos were edited to the electric recordings of slime mold growing on a MEA. Changes in the readings were translated into beats which were used for automated editing.
