Nesting is a selected project for Back to the City in a festival of temporary urban art interventions taking place in the City of Newcastle in January and February 2008.
Urban renewal has begun and city habitat needs to be rediscovered. Nesting is a temporary site-specific installation that intervenes the daily routine of passers-by in a visual and auditory way.
The plane trees in Crown Street hide oversized hand-made nests with vibrant sounds emanating from the leafy canopy. The audio installation is based on contributions of the public and the idea was to create a sound-map of Newcastle using nominated significant Novocastrian sounds that people associate with their suburb.
